November: The Robe

What: The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas
The Robe explores the aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus through the experiences of the Roman tribune who commanded the unit in charge of the crucifixion. The man goes on a journey, following the path Jesus took and meets many people whose lives Jesus had affected. Through this journey, both the tribune and the reader are challenged to explore their faith.

When: Monday, DECEMBER 10, 2007
Where: (any volunteers?)
Why: I was first introduced to this book as one of three books President Monson reads every Christmas season. I thought it worth reading and was very pleased. It gives a descriptive insight to the times, politics, and place of Christ's life. Besides all that I learned, my favorite part of the book is the develpment and growth of the main character. I hope you enjoy this read, and hope that it has an effect on you as it did on me.

Monday, Monday...

(You were supposed to sing that to the Mamas and the Papas tune.) See you ladies Monday, 8:30! I'm excited to discuss Pride and Prejudice. I have been loving it, even more the second time! If you need directions to my house, let me know.

Check your calenders...

We want to have the book group meet on the same day at the end of every month (skipping July and December). For most people interested, Monday is family night, Tuesday is Scouts, Wednesday is Mutual, Thursday is sometimes Enrichment, Friday is date night and Saturday is a special day...and night. What are your thoughts on timing? Would it be totally inappropriate to meet on the last Monday at 8:30? It's usually the most clear evening... and the kids are in bed by then... I have had mixed reactions, what do you think?

Feedback

If you plan on coming this month, leave a comment! Or if you have questions, suggestions, anything to say at all... comment!!! Let's at least get a list of interested ladies who want to be part of this book group.

For those new to the glorious world of blogging, just click on "comments" and type in your thoughts. If you don't have a google account, you might have to make one, but it's easy cheesy.

Can't wait to hear from you!!! Thanks.

October: Pride and Prejudice (note date and time change)

What: Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austin
When: October 29 (last Monday of the Month) @ 8:30 p.m.
Where: Emily McPhie's home
Why: If you haven't read it, you should. If you have read, you sure can read it again. A movie about Jane Austin's life, Becoming Jane, just came out... and it's good. Speaking of movies, Pride and Prejudice makes a good flick. Maybe we should watch it after we discuss.

Testimonial

When I moved here two years ago, I left behind a tight-knit group of ladies that had been meeting to discuss books for ten years! They had been together through marriages, kids, divorces, deaths, teenagers, missionaries, and more marriages. The best part was the list of books they compiled at their tenth anniversary. It was, to say the least, impressive. I have craved that mental stimulation, camaraderie and most of all, an excuse to read! So, let's make a book group!!

I have three reasons behind my motivation. 1. I absolutely love to read really good books. 2. I love getting together with my girlfriends and talking about deep...stuff. 3. I love treats.

If this sounds good to you, come to our first meeting. If you are really into it, let's get you on this blog so you can post your own ideas, or at least leave a comment. If you are sort of into it, come for the treats.
